Sparton Horn Restoration -- Here We Go Again....

My horn makes lovely noises, but the gaskets are worn, and the paint is chipped in spots.Since I have a habit of fixing "what ain't broke," I need some thoughts on painting techniques.

I can bead-blast the metal clean easily enough, but I don't have a spray gun.Should I consider powder coating by a third party?Rims that I have seen powder coated appear to have too much paint on them, in my humble opinion. (The buttt[edited for television] welds are usually covered over so that they can't be seen; only purists care about such things...)

Are there aerosols on the market that will do a good job (assuming I don't botch the spraying technique). In fact, if aerosols are used correctly (respraying after so many minutes? how many times?), will this give me a lasting finish? The aerosols that I have used to date for undercarriage parts look nice, but the finishes seem to chip easily.Could it be that I'm using too inexpensive a paint (WalMart's $1.99 specials!)? not enough coats?

Did someone say, "leave well enough alone?"

Thanks for any thoughts.

Regards,

Gordon Biggar
