Painting wheels before/after

I've read several articles on installing tires after painting the wheels using everything from plastic bags,talc,dishwashing soap and was going to go that route when I was talking to my paint supplier and was told to put the tires on before painting to stop damage to the paint. I thougt I would post this messege for some feed back from anyone with first hand experience, I'm capable but want to minimize any mistakes!
