: I've read several articles on installing tires after painting the wheels using everything from plastic bags, talc, dishwashing soap and was going to go that route when I was talking to my paint supplier and was told to put the tires on before painting to stop damage to the paint. I thougt I would post this messege for some feed back from anyone with first hand experience, I'm capable but want to minimize any mistakes!

I went the easy way and had my wheels powder coated, and it worked great. Then I cut a strip of heavy plastic drop cloth and doubled it over. I took the tire and stood it up, and slid the bottom of the wheel over the bead of the tire. Put the plastic between the tire and rim and the tire goes on with thumb pressure. The hardest part was getting the hubcaps on tight. Ended up using a large pair of channellock pliers to crimp the tabs tight after bending them over.
