I wouldn't be to concerned with the Autolite heater.There were problems with the old Ottwell Health heaters because they were cast in one piece including the cover.The manifolds would develope cracks into the chamber area and allow exaust fumes to escape into the chamber and into the car.The Autolite heaters don't typically crack in that area and if they do you can find the proble by removing the cover.
Another advantage is they are far less likely to warp horizontally (causing misaligned ports) like plain manifolds.
I don't know what was provided originally to connect the door to the heater assembly.I know someone with a NOS assembly and hope he can find it so I can see the entire kit since I am in a similar situation with my Fordor
