I'm remembering the trips I used to take (in the early '60s) from south of Boston up to Temple mountain New Hampshire for weekend ski outings, and the like (about 90 miles). We ran up in a friend's '29 woody which was equipped with good side and rear curtains and had an autolite manifold heater with an additional hot water heater mounted on the floor just behind the shift column. The combination made the woody pretty livable even at temperatures close to zero.On the first trip up there at about 55, I noticed the smell of burning rubber which turned out to be my right sneaker melting from the air coming out of the manifold heater. That was when I noticed the red glow around the floorboards which was coming from the heater door.

Moral - I don't know about radiator hose if you're going on longer trips in the winter. The original connection was asbestos tubing with a woven outer cover. We used asbestos lined steel exhaust flex tubing, finding that just steel tubing made things pretty noisey inside the car.

Paranthetically, my friend had bought the woody in '59 for $75 with beach tires on it, and then sold the beach tires for more than we paid for the car - ah the good old days.
