Coil Hookup

I have a '30 C.C. P.U. with a rebuilt distributer, new plugs, rebuilt carb and new wiring. The coil was hooked up with power coming in on the pos. side and wire to the distributer on the neg. side (it's marked '+' & '-' vs. the orig. bat & dist I'm told it should have if the dist. was orig.).I always learned that the pos. side should be connected to the distributer on positive ground. It starts and runs great until I've run 10 or 15 miles, then begins missing and backfiring - like a bad condenser.Carb bowl is clean and timing is right on the money.Heat shield is in place and condenser was new when I rebuilt the distributer.Switching the wires back doesn't seem to make a difference. What am I overlooking?Any ideas will be appreciated!!
