Installation of metal vavlestems

My Model A currently has the tubes with the rubber valvestems. I'm planning to replace them with the original style metal vavlestems. I've heard a lot of stories and tales about how difficult this is and that the tires will leak a lot of air with a lot of flat tires. I understand you have to "cut out" the original rubber stem that the tube came with. Does anyone have experience or a good method in replacing the stems. Thanks Dean West
