G'Day Dean,
Out here in darkest Africa the current exchange rate puts the original type valve stems almost out of reach economically speaking, so I've used tractor valve stems which are used for tubeless tyres, but they fit the tube in exactly the same way as the reproduction stems so here's how I did it.
Because the rubber stems weren't originally mounted on the centre line of the tube I had to relocate the hole, (which you shouldn't need to do) so I got five large (about 4" dia) truck patches & punched a small hole , 5/16",in all of them about 1/3rd of the way across the diameter. The hole position was then marked on the tube & punched out in the following manner. To prevent damaging the inside of the tube, push a small coin through the hole where the original valve stem was cut off, then line it up under the hole & cut the new hole by first lubricating the punch with a little soap, then twisting it back & forth until you get through to the coin, which can then be removed. Because I had to use the patches, the valve stem was then fitted into the new hole in the tube & the patch slid down over it & vulcanised onto the tube.

: My Model A currently has the tubes with the rubber valvestems. I'm planning to replace them with the original style metal vavlestems. I've heard a lot of stories and tales about how difficult this is and that the tires will leak a lot of air with a lot of flat tires. I understand you have to "cut out" the original rubber stem that the tube came with. Does anyone have experience or a good method in replacing the stems.

: Thanks Dean West
