Dean,
Depending on how original and correct you are trying to achieve, you can purchase tubes with metal stems already vulcanized in.Seems like I bought mine from either Lucas or Coker.This eliminates the leaking around the "cutout" stem. As I recall they weren't but about $3 to $5 more than the rubber stem version.
I've run mine for about 5,000 miles and haven't had any problems with them.
