hello, everyone, i dissected out the steering gearbox on my '31, and found that everything was alright except the sector bush , the upper bearing race, and the worm itself.---this is what happens when someone uses grease instead of gear oil. does anyone have a worm in good condition which they would be willing to sell?-------or----has anyone a new-old-stock one in their collection which they would consider selling if offered enough? a thought, just from curiousity----has anyone tried turning down the ends of the worm enough to press on a timken inner race?---does a suitable timken part exist? i wouldn't feel comfortable with merely taking a cut from the taper-bearing surfaces of the worm to clean out the brinelling, cos it looks as tho i'd be going through the hardening on the part. someone else said that the steering-box from a '56 ford half ton would interchange---that just doesn't sound right to me at first hearing---but is there something to that? thanks carla |
