Carla,
Just a short comment to your statement "this is what happens when someone uses grease instead of gear oil".I have just read The Restorer July/August 1998 and on page 26 the article titled "Best steering gear grease" states that in 1963 a grease under part number C3AZ19578-A is used for the steering gear with great results.I don't know . . . .
