Sounds like a Beach Boys song to me.

My A (standard engine)has a vibration at speed (usually begins about 40 mph). This has developed as I have been updating theengine's appendages (ie: rebuilt waterpump, distributor, new head gasket, carburetor rebuild, new fan and belt, rebuilt oil pump, resurfaced head and manifolds and other nick nacks). The engine starts fine (after timing with a light) and drives well at slow speed. It develops a perceptable lobbing vibration at and above 40 mph.

At first, I thought that I had created a compression differential between the cylinders (ie effectively blown the head gasket) but that doesn't seem to be the problem. The vibration noticably diminishes when you retard the spark lever.Would somebody like to wade in here and render an opinion as to whether I have just got Belle running the way it was intended (ie you have to adjust the spark after reaching cruising speed) or have I got a problem?

Oh, by the way, I started out thinking of Good Vibrations.
