: The firewall on mymaroon and black 1930 Town Sedan is now painted black, which is peeling away and revealing what appears to be a brownish-red undercoat, or it could be the original color. I have seen other cars with firewalls painted the same as the body. Can anyone advise me what color it should be?

Mike,
A little condensed explanation: The entire body was painted in the primary color inside and out. Sometimes the bottom of the body was overlooked. The secondary color was the applied to the areas outside the car that are visible with the doors, etc., closed.

On the Town Car and Cabriolet, the upper body color was the primary color. On other models the lower body color was the primary color.

For the finer details of the paint processes on all aspects of the Model 'A', see the "Model A Paint and Finish Guide" published by MAFCA (as well as accurate color chips). For a good understanding of how the Model 'A' was done, this book is a must!!!

I've never seen original paint peel. If you clean a little deeper I suspect you will find the original color.

Have fun!

Marco
