| : Hello I have taken my rear moter mounts out of the frame to notice that they seem to be deformed and have a couple of cracks in them.I see that you no longer buy them, is it possible to repair them. I also see this float-a-motor kit in the catalogs is this an optiion I should be looking at.Thank you Keith
keith, if you have reasonable metalworking skills, you can readily straighten and weld your mounts, but would the work involved be worth it?someone, somewhere, is likely to have some good used ones you could buy cheaply. if i remember correctly, there are 2 versions of that part, the later one is stronger. more importantly, tho, if the mounts were deformed, was the chassis frame damaged, could it have been bent slightly or cracks started at the through holes for the bolts holding the mounts???in my own opinion the float a motor pads are a bad idea. the rigidity of the after engine mounting is a de facto cross-member, part of the structural integrity of the chassis. remember, in the ford design, unlike the hotchkiss system used by other makers, the entirety of the horsepower of the engine which drives the wheels is transmitted to the chassis(through the torque tube) at the after engine mount.
