Competitors?

Hello All,
What was the big competitor/s (make/model) of the MODEL A
in it golden days?
Do you know if there is a site/forum in wich is possible
to learn about this competitors?
I am interested in the "weak" points of these competitors
(what usually broke).
Is true that Mr Henry adopted the thermostat in the engine
because some of those competitors first prove that it really
works?
