Wood Woes

I have a 1930 Tudor that I have been working on for about 8 months now. Some of the members of my club have told me to get it running and drive it around for awhile before doing a ground up restoration. That I have done. The car has no top on it and the wood is rotten so I bought a Top Wood Kit and thought I would install it prior to putting on the new top.Aside from having to cut every single bolt and screw off just to get the old wood out I have discovered that most of the new wood parts don't fit ( the top bows are 1/2 inch too short and the front header piece that goes over the windshield is about 3/4 inch too big).So now what?Is it comon to have to refabricate all of the wood parts? These wood kits are expensive and I expected them to fit a lot better than this.

While I've got your attention, is it better to just go ahead and disassemble the car and restore it from the frame up?It seems to me that the approach that was suggested and that I have been followingmakes for a lot of do-over work.
