Kevin,
Your carb shouldn't drip even with a leaky shut off.
I've never seen a viton tip leak, I'd suspect something else, maybe a leaky jet or bad seal somewhere in the bottom half. Remove the bottom half of the carb, clamp the bolt in a vise via the head and place the carb over it making sure it is level. Now pour in some gas to about 5/8 below the edge of the bowl and look for the leak. The cap jet has to be in tack. Inspect the jets and their base. This will isolate the carb from the rest of the system. Also make sure the jets are proper lengths, very critical since gas is in them and they have to be above the level of the gas.

If this proves no leaks, check the threads and shoulders of thefloat valve and housing.
