1931 Model A ford battery hookup?

I recently tried to start my inherited 1931 Model A, and discovered that the battery was dead.After repeated attempts to charge the battery... i decided that I might need to get a new one.Two questions
1.Any special type of battery to buy for these old cars?
2.Any special way to connect the battery?I'm asking because it appears to me that the battery was hooked-up originally with the + connector grounded to the body.
