Door hinge pin removal

Posted by Ed Greany on March 06, 1997 at 00:50:36

I have a '31 Vicky I want to install side mirrors on.
The mounting bracket installs about the top door hings by removing
the door hinge pin and re-inserting a new pin through the mirror
bracket and hinge.
Can't seem to get the hinge pin out. I have done the WD-40/
Liquid Wrench routine; bought and attempted removal with air impact
chisel; tried pin punch/hammer; was advised not to use Proto-power
hydraulic or risk bending "stuff".
Still won't budge. I suspect the pin was originally a soft spline
smacked into the hole. Car is a total restore and don't dare nick it.
Shall I try a drill bit . . . or start over again with another car?
. Thanks. e-mail egreany@aol.com
