: : Cass, : : Briggs had the D-nuts and the Murray had the caged nuts. : : John: John : The Victoria - were they built by Murray, Briggs or both? I have an early, (Feb 1931 motor number) leatherback that I suspect, but do not know, is a Murray. There is a body tag on the firewall below the data plate numbered 22353 without any other identifying marks. I have not checked the nuts for "D" or Square Cage", will that tell me for certain? : Thanks, : Tom Tom, The body plate you refer to on the firewall should say Murray on it. One of the things we have determined of the 200+ Victorias that are in our Victoria Association data base is that none of the cars are "confirmed" Briggs manufacture. Some have Briggs data plates but they do not have D nuts. So we suspect that these have had the data plate changed out sometime during their life. A common belief is that the leatherbacks were manufactured by Briggs and the steelbacks by Murray but the data doesn't bear this out since we have about 50% leatherbacks in the list and none are confirmed Briggs. As Marco said we do have a questionnaire that we send to members to fill out with details on their car to build on the data that we have. Send me an e-mail if you are interested in more info on the Victoria Association. Thanks, John
