David,

It has been common since I started paying attention to these details in the 70's, for people to aquire cars missing the body tag. This was generally due to being at some incomplete stage of restoration. It was also common to buy a new tag based on belief of manufacturer or whatever was available from the local "A" parts vender.

What John did not say is there are relatively few "claims" of Briggs bodied Victorias, and none known to exist either unrestored, or with documented history. If someone buys one now that was restored 25 years ago with several owners during that time, no background can be traced and this is common.

As far as the Cage nut/"D" nut issue, there have been 100's to 1000's of cars reviewed that could be confirmed with certainty. There has never been an exception to the rule that I have been able to find. I've been fortunate enough to personally study many '31 models, either unrestored, or during restoration when all the pieces can de studied. Probably close to 100 at this point and I'm still looking for that strange exception!
