Oil Pump installation into engine

I'm seeking information as to the use and purpose of the bolt on the side of the Model A engine that is in line wih the oil pump and right above the flange that the oil pan mounts onto. It appears to be about a 3/8" pipe thread. Does this bolt hold the oil pump in? Is his bolt an assembly aid to temporairily hold the oil pump if the engine is still in the car during re-assembly? Isn't the spring on the bottom of the oil pump the only holding device in operation of the Model A? Are any pins used to bear on the main shaft housing of the oil pump through this hole during operation? Looking forward to your replies.
