Gas Shutoff Valve

Is there a trick to getting the gas shut off valve off the gas tank on a 29 CC p-up.It is so tight I'm afraid I'll tear out the bottom of the tank?I don't believe Ford used any left hand threads.Or is there an easy procedure to take the valve apart and rebuild.I know this sounds very basic but it seems that the little things cause the most trouble.
