I'm glad Red came back to stick up for himself (not that he needed to) but after reading through the posts again I have to stick my neck out and post a reply.

I find it interesting that Red's post mentioning no body style or condition became a coupe assumed to be in excellent condition.Kind of reminds me of the telephone game we used to play as kids, where the original message got changed as it was wispered from ear to ear until it didn't even resemble what it started as.

I also find it interesting that everyone assume him to be a "rodder" when all he said was he wanted to put the body on a "modern" chasis.Maybe he plans to put it on a Pinto chasis and bold on original A wheels (is a Pinto chasis modern??)

Assuming he wants to put a V8 in front of it, who said anything about chopping it up?I too used to look down my nose at the "rodders", thought they were the lowest slime on earth, until a few weeks ago when I sold a bunch of Model A and Model T parts. I had 3 '28-9 tudor bodies, and a few Model T bodies in REALLY rough shape. The holyer than thought "restorers" told me to haul the bodies to the dump, no one wants them, such an such has 10 of them is his grove.Well, along came a guy that lives about 4 blocks away from me, spotted 2 T Tudor bodies rusted to the hilt, started drooling, and went home with them and a bunch of other "scrap" pieces the "restorer's" told me to throw away. He's going to build a car I would never even think of starting.Already has the old frame he picked up with it at the frame shop to be checked, and it goes to the body shop next.My '30- tudor I bought last summer still sits in my shed begging for me to start on it.Also sold one of the A Tudor bodies to a rodder after all the local A'ers turned up their nose at that body saying there was "nothing left of it".I guess to me, if someone will take something like that and build a car, more power to them!! Who knows, may meet a kid with it some day that gets interested in old cars and starts "restoring", and the more kids in the hobby the better in my book.

The moral of the story I guess is after I looked around and saw there are a lot or "rodders" out there that very much appreciate a nice car restored to original, but will also pull together a bunch of "garbage" and put a car together, maybe their not the anti-christ.Maybe next time you scowl at a rod driver when you walk by, stop to ask it it's a steel body or a repro, and what the body, etc were like when he started, you may be pleasently surprised.

As far as "rods" being worth 2-3 times more than a restored car, I guess if I put a $5000 blue printed and balanced 455, disk brakes, and a custom interior in an old VW, i'd expect a little more out of it than a standard car also.I have also seen considerable more cars being restored in the "lost interest" columb than street rods.If there is one thing you seem to be able to say about rodders is they seem to be a dang persistant bunch.I also haven't seen to many rodders yelling at the restorers for stealing their material.

Anyone that takes a nice original or nice restored old car of any type and takes it apart to make a rod would be pretty low on my list, but as someone stated, it is a free coutry. As far as mine, they will be restored to original and enjoyed as much as a "rodder" enjoys his idea of a neat old car.

Sorry to be so long winded, but next time before you go off the deep end and judge the guy to be next to dirt, take a few minutes to think about it.I am guessing you read the post to see it there was anything there you could use, right?

Gary
