: On May 29, Fred Murphy posed the question of how to reinstall the windshield glass.Has anybody done this?Would like to replace it myself.Have removed the old plate glass, repainted the windshield frame, have new glass and glass bedding material.Tried resetting it once myself.Dumb me put the high friction side of the material against the frame instead of the glass and tore the bedding material. Are the corners of the setting material semi-mitered to eliminate the surplus in the corners or what?
Cass,
With the help and advice of Marco,I was able to get new windshield installed today.Done, finished, lookin good.I must admit it took a few hours, but I'd do it again. I had two areas I was concerned with;1) The colk setting material I purchased was A-3403-x Thick and 2) I had the frame sandblasted, powdercoated and then primed and lacquer the face surface. The heavy powdercoating and thick cork made the installation very slow and just about wore out my rubber mallet. The addition of a little silicone lubricant wiped on the inside of the channel helped a little.Take your time and it should work out well for you.P.S. Everytime I swung that mallet I was thinking of Joe's comment $10.and ten minutes at the glass company and it's done. What the heck I only paid $48.00 for the Safety glass not $125.and I'm a little crazy anyhow.
Good Luck
Fred M
: Thanks for the help
