Cass,

Sometime back, Bob Carabbio responded to Fred on glass installation and the response is now posted on the MAFCA website and can be found at http://www.mafca.com/tt-ws.htm or click on the link below (it's always worth reviewing Bob's suggestions!).I forwarded my experiences to Fred as outlined below.Following that are some additional comments.

The cork goes towards the glass and the cloth backing slides into the frame. The glass should be 1/4" (+/-.020") and the cork should be 1/16" thick. As an alternative to the info Bob gave you a while back, I place a clean 2x4 or 2x6 (cut almost as long as the glass) on the family room carpet and I lay a couple layers of blanket over for padding.I use lots of masking tape pieces to hold the edges of the cork down on both sides of the glass.I make sure no tape will end up inside the frame channel.I carefully miter the cork in the corners (don't take to much off and leave a gap).I start the glass (and cork) into the frame, then turn it over and place the glass on the padded board with the frame edges over the ends so they don't touch and bottom out.I use a small towel (doubled) over the painted frame and wack the frame along the bottom with a solid rubber mallet. When the frame bottoms out on the glass it is the easy to tap the upper ends into place and then do the top cap similarly.

Additional comments:
Fred substituted duct tape for the masking tape which is wise since it sticks much better.I also neglected to mention that the remaining excess cork is easily trimmed with a fresh razor blade using a little sense (and wearing eye glasses in my case) to prevent trimming paint in the process!!!

Good luck,

Marco
