Ken,
There are two very good descriptions on adjusting vavles. The first is in the Service Bulletins (original page 338) (page 115 in the reprint yellow book. It says .010 to .013 for both intakes and exhaust valves.
The Model "A" Ford Handbook by Les Andrews recommends intakes at .013 and exhausts at .015. I used these recently with good results. Follow the sequence for determining when each valve is closed in either of the above two books.
You may run into the same problem I had if the lifter bosses in the block have not been modified for the adjustable lifters. The only way I could get the two wrenches on the lifter was with that valve in the open position, which is not where one measures the clearance. I even had ground the the wrenches to help make them fit. I had to measure the clearance for all valves, write the clearances down, turn the engine until the valves that needed adjusting were open and make an estimated adjustment. Turn the engine again until the valve is closed and remeasure. Luckily, I had a 15 year old with a strong arm turning the engine.
There is probably an easier method.
Dave
