engine additives

Hello everyone, I'm picking up my short block in the morning and I need some advice.I have read that nearly all engine wear occures when the engine first starts.I want to give my engine the best protection I can.Can anyone recommend an engine additive to counteract this problem.I have had a couple of suggestions such as Risolone, Duralube, Slick 50, Prolong...I'm quite aware of pouring the oil down the distributor shaft for initial startup but I'm looking for something reliable and time tested that treats the metal. Any testimony or advice would be greatly appreciated. Have a great memorial day folks.I'm sure there will be alot of "A's" in those perades. Thanks in advance, Kevin Daly
