Engine oil spray

I recently noticed a film of oil on the lower left side of engine. With engine running I removed filler cap and discovered a fine spray of engine oil comming up through filler tube. What in the heck is going on? Any ideas will be of great help. This is a wonderful site, thanks to all of you! Dick Riemer
