In Texas, you can apply for a lost title.With a little help from your local Tax Assessor-Collector, there is a form (affadavit) that must be filled out, the vehicle must be weighed, a rubbing of the VIN (in our Model A case, the engine number) and I believe a photo also.This is sent in thru the Tax A-C's office to the Motor Vehicle office in Austin.The search takes a while but you can eventually get a clear title.
