Keith,

At first I thought *I* wrote this message. I now have my grandfather's Model A. His name is Tony Aiello, some of you may know him. He's had it since 1958, and has been in MARC since 1965.

The problem I have is this. I need to find the VIN number of the frame. The engine has been replaced twice. I know the engine is a 1930 Model. However, the story of the ID on the car itself is confusing. From everything I can tell, it's a 1930 Model A Sport Coupe. From what I've read, previous to June 1930, the speedometer was oval. This one is. However, my grandfather says this is a 1931 Canadian. I asked him what he meant by that, and he said that when they stopped making the 1930 here in the US, any left over material/parts would be shipped to Canada for the next year. As I see it, then, this car was made in Canada in 1931 with 1930 parts. The title lists it as a 1931 model, says nothing about Canadian, and has no VIN number. I can't get the title transferred until I find it.

Any ideas? I've looked on the frame, near the clutch pedal, as the curator at the Henry Ford museum suggested, but I haven't removed the floor boards yet. I looked behind the #1 body bolt, as is suggested in an old MARC book, but there's nothing there.

J.R.
