The 12v coil reminds me of a previous post discussion of coils and ballast resistors. In the 12v point type ignition the resistor is in series with the coil during "run" and shorted during "start" due the drain the starter puts on the battery. During the drain the voltage drops to about 8ish volts so the coil is feed directly from the battery to achieve a good spark. To extend the point life the ballast resistor is in series with the coil during run. This is done in some systems with a solenoid, others via the ignition switch. How do they do this in the "A"s? I know there's not much room in or around the ignition switch, maybe hang a solenoid around the battery so it is out of view?
