Rick,
Two additional things: First, with the steering in the car and functioning, have someone move the wheel sharply back and forth against the free play while observing the pitman arm. Any visible up and down movement of the shaft is to much play in the bushings. That may give you some idea of what to expect on the bench.

Second, The gear lube commonly labeled as 600W is either modern 120w or 140w depending on supplier. The viscosity of the original 600W was nearly equivalent to modern 250w gear lube which is more difficult to find. The original thicker gear lube runs out at a considerably lower rate.

Regards,

Marco
