What were gas prices when Model A's were built?

"Drop in gasoline prices hasn't lost fuel"

In USA Today March 18 1998:
"By today's standards, gasoline pumped in the 1920s cost $2.50 a gallon?"

This prompted me to think of a few good questions for discussion, as I wasn't around back then

What was the price of gas during the era of the Model A?
What would gas cost today adjusted for inflation?
How could ordinary people afford to buy gas during the depression?
What else today (in 1998) costs less than it did 70 years
ago, adjusted for inflation?
