: You know maybe I am missing something here with this title business and all. I called Broadway and another one located in Alabama and they want a fortune. Soooo, I went to the Secretary of States office (Michigan), Did what they asked ie....weight slip, vin numbers, proof of ownership ( a letter from the owner previously, or relative, or assembled receipts) and gave them a whole eleven dollars. They were very helpful.

Here's an excerp from the Massachusetts Title Law.And, I might add, the registry people at the Boston Office are neither helpful nor friendly. I was just down there last week getting a new registration and title --- a very costly and ugly experience. The title fee was $50 and the registration fee (one year) was $50.Sales tax was 5%.

"If you purchase a new or used vehicle and want to title and pay the sales tax only, but do not wish to register it, please follow the directions below. Please note, if you are going to register the vehicle also, refer to the Applying for a New Registration section.
Fees
The title fee is $50.00 plus the applicable sales tax. Sales tax will be collected on 5% of the dealer sales price. If the vehicle was purchased from a dealer not registered with the Department of Revenue, the sales tax will be calculated at 5% of the purchase price or the National Automotive Dealer Association (NADA) trade-in value, whichever is higher."
