Whinning transmission

The transmission in my 28 Tudor whines only when on the gas accellerating, 1st gear is the worst.Is this normal, how much is normal, the floor boards are all out so you can really hear it.What could cause this?The car was purchased as an almost running frame and is now running with the body mounted. The transmission/engine appear to be rebuilt, all new gaskets etc, this was the first road test.
