: The transmission in my 28 Tudor whines only when on the gas accellerating, 1st gear is the worst. Is this normal, how much is normal, the floor boards are all out so you can really hear it.What could cause this? The car was purchased as an almost running frame and is now running with the body mounted. The transmission/engine appear to be rebuilt, all new gaskets etc, this was the first road test.

Several things can cause whinning.worn gears are a main source.Another often overlooked cause is countershaft bearings, and especially the bearing between the input shaft and main output shaft.

Some noise is normal, since the gears are straight cut, and whine by nature.A gritty sounding growl or an uneven tone tothe noise can indicate abnormal noise.I never heard a quiet model a transmission, but have heard a few that sounded like a siren on a fire truck.
