hood alignment

I have a hood that I have had difficulty getting aligned properly. The gap at the cowl end at the top (by the gas cap) is good ( about 1/8'" right across). However at both sides of the cowl the gap is too wide (about 3/8"). At the rad the gap is 0" at the top and about 1/16" on each side. I have tried adjusting the hood rods and there are shims (2 I think) under the front body bolts by the cowl. The rad has a rubber shim on each side. An article in "How to Restore Your Model A" vol. 2 suggests that the rad mounting holes in the frame could be elongated. Has anyone tried that? I did separate frame from body during the restoration and the frame measured out straight and did not appear bent. Any suggestions would be
appreciated.
