Fellow preservers,

I agree that the workmanship used in many rods is pretty impressive.Most rodders consider their cars works of art, and I can appreciate their view.However, I also consider the remaining original Model A's works of art that cannot be replaced.The Model A's are a very important piece of American history, and should be treated as such.I think the only way to retain their remarkable historical character is to PRESERVE them in their original state for future generations to appreciate.

The mentioned gas tank is one part that is not reproduced. There goes one more gas tank that can never be used in a real Model A.Why can't they sell the gas tank to us and buy a repro steel skin?And then why can't they buy a repro body and let us work with the historical artifact?

I can deal with reasonably modified Model A's, but one thing I can't stand is "chopped" rods.I think the Model A's front seat compartment is cramped enough and I can't see how anyone could get any driving pleasure by making it smaller.I can't see why anyone would want to chop a car that has lasted intact for seventy years;I guess they just don't have any respect for THEIR history.The Model A was one of the greatest cars of all time, why alter it?

If the rodders want "new" cars, then they should buy new cars.What do you think?

: Starting to notice Rodder vs Restorer/ Restorer vs Rodder posts becomimg more frequent so here's something that seems ironic.

: Last winter Street Rodder ran a series on building a "Califonia Roadster" based on a 29 roadster. They started with a $2000 (I think that's the price) car found in a junkyard, arestorable one at that. First thing was to yank the chassis, sold it for parts and bought a rod chassis. The plans called for some mods to the cowl due to restyling like laying back the windshield. The gas tank was cut to make it into a dash. The trunk lid, trunk lower panel, doors and sub "stuff" were replaced with Brookville repos do to the work involved to use the originals. So essentially the only part they needed from the A was the cowl which was changed too. MMMM seems to me they could have used the 2000 fun tickets to git goodies.
: I do have to commend the author because he did state that he should have overlooked the 29 and started with the rod and repo route, BTW the repo panels are steel for the steel is real guys.

: Personally I like to see cars restored and not rodded especially when there is such a rod parts market in place, besides it doesn't make sense like in the article. But I do like rods ( I can sense the snarls) because I admire skills, craftsmanship and ideas used the create them.

: The one that gets me is a guy rodding a totally restored "two off a kind".
