That '28 AR was a nice original car, but at the time it was just an old ford...how would you feel now if you know someone that was swapping a late mode modular v-8 into their '76 crown victoria? Maybe the same as you would about the A but for some reason most of the people I know wouldn't feel the same way about it. Personally I don't see any car as being any less significant of a piece of history as any other...I'd feel the same way about either one.
A lot of the cars I've seen rodded would not have been preserved if they weren't, they would have either been allowed to rust away or have been parted out...while parting out might help preserve some other car...it certaily removes the car in question from existance at all...It is certainly possible to restore an A from almost any condition, but for a lot of other makes, this isn't quite the case.
I would still have to agree with most out there in that I don't see taking a solid original or restored car and rodding it...I probably won't ever feel bad about building a street rod, and you probably won't ever feel good about building one...but I'd say we can both agree that stock A's are nice and a good piece of history...unless that sense of the history is cultured in younger people all of us who like stock A's will be in trouble...and it seem like rodders are a lot better at getting out there and catching public attention and interesting younger people.
Around my area there are relatively frequently rod runs, '50's car shows, and the like...but I don't ever remember an antique car show here...and I know the cars are around...people just don't seem to be getting out there and doing anything with them. I'm sure the local MARC chapter must get together for something and maybe they do organize things to involve people other than themselves, but I sure haven't seen anything that would involve other people in it. My opinion is if you've just got the car hidden away in your garage it might as well be melted down for scrap, 'cause no one else is going to benefit from it anyway. I'd strongly prefer selling it to someone else who will do something with it...like use it, but...
