Paul is correct in suggesting that the flange on the muffler header pipe may need enlarged. Once the manifold is sanded and the flange enlarged (if needed) a good practice is as follows. Using a floor jack under the muffler jack the header pipe up against the exhaust manifold. With a light hammer dolly around the flange conforming it to the exhaust flange. Install the clamp and, while tightening, tap the clamp around it's circumference while tightening intermittently. Start the car and heat every thing up and then tap tap tap again. Bet she don't leak now.... Careful when jacking against the muffler, clearance between the tires and the floor will probably result in damage to the muffler, probably...! God Speed under 50. The Model A Fool. : : : : Should there be a high-temp gasget in there, or a metal sleeve under the clamp? Could an air leak here cause backfiring? If there were a leak (I'm not sure there is), would it blow exhaust out, or suck air in? : Paul, |
