12 volt or 6 volt specs

I have bought a 28 sports coup. The battery has no markings and I do not know if it is 12 or 6 volts. It should be 6 volts, but it seems a lot of things have changed.Does anyone know if I measure the indedence of thwe coil for the generator or starter. 12 v or 6 v should read different in thier coils. Any hints?? Thanks Tony
