: I have bought a 28 sports coup. The battery has no markings and I do not know if it is 12 or 6 volts. It should be 6 volts, but it seems a lot of things have changed.Does anyone know if I measure the indedence of thwe coil for the generator or starter. 12 v or 6 v should read different in thier coils. Any hints?? Thanks Tony

G'Day Tony,
If there's a battery in the car, just count the number of cells, in other words three filler caps for topping up, is 6 volt & six filler caps is a 12 volt. You won't pick up much difference in resistance measurements especially on the starter coils as the 6 volt starter is almost always used with the 12 volt conversions. If the car's a non runner & doesn't have a battery, open up the head or tail lamps & check what voltage globes are fitted. Alternately if you're itching to get it started, 12 volts won't do any damage as long as all lights are switched off or globes removed.
