Gas Tank Filter

Okay, so now I have my '29 Roadster gas tank off and have found it to be rusty on the inside and particles flaking off from the neck filter.I understand this model has a screw-in type filter, but all the advertisements are for the "later" tab style filter.Is the tab style a suitable replacement for the screw-in type?Also, it seems very unlikely that the filter is going to "unscrew" as it is very stubborn and will not co-operate.
