Painting Firewall

I eventually want to repaint the firewall in my Model A because the paint is cracking and some rust is coming through.
A couple of years ago I had some lacquer paint made for touch up purposes and I still have at least half a pint left.What I'm wondering if this lacquer will withstand the heat within
the engine compartment?After I strip the paint off the
firewall, what kind of primer should I use?
