Asking about painting is sometimes like asking "who you voted for in the last election."...... Lacquer was the original paint system that Ford used..... I like to use the polyester 2 part catalized primers; they are more expensive but for durability and sandability it sure helps fill pits and flaws. If applied as directed it is a great foundation for the top coat..... I would talk to an automotive paint specialist about the old paint to make sure it is fresh enough so you do not end up doing the job twice..... good luck
