Tony,

There are four varieties of similar rear fenders. All the Coupe, Roadster, Pickup rear fenders are parallel from front to rear and have no inner skirt at the lower rear inside quarter.

The earliest, narrowed at the rear from the body down and is known as "beaver tail" fenders. The second was approximately even in width from end to end. In 1930 the tail was given a greater sweep or curve and the bead retained it's width around the rear of the fender instead of narrowing near the center of the tail. The most distinctive change is the cut-out area for the side splash apron. In '28-29 the cut-out was shallow and rounded. In 1930-31 the cut-out was near 3" deep and relatively square. The last version is for the '31 wide bed pickup box (78-B) and is narrower to compensate for the wide box. It is rare and worth more $ if you ended up with one of those by mistake.

Many people are going the "new" route. All the ones I've seen are too different in appearance for me, but I've been at this too long! I suppose the differences are really quite subtle and new fenders should be considered an alternative.
