Paul,
The notch thing is a figure of speech.
I found one car having all kinds of problems with the juice brakes. The symptom, dragging after driving awhile. The owner blamed it on lining material and just keeped changing them. What I found was the master cylinder was installed without an adjustable push rod and the rod was too long. This keeped the piston from returning to it's stop and covering the fluid port. The brakes where in an always applied state. Fixed it by shiming the master.
You're probably OK but I mention this for others to watch for.
