Paul,

I just recently worked with some. In this case all four housing plates are installed with the cylinder on top. with the wrench away from the center or outward, pull down on the wrench until the you hear or feel the drag when spinning the wheel. Back off just a little and the shoe should be in the ideal position. Repeat with each shoe(I'm sure you had that all figured out!).

If the shoes are adjusted too loose then they retract too far from the drum and require too much fluid or pedal to expand out to the drum.

If you encounter any "pull" it will be from some other problem than adjustment.

You must have some free pedal so the fluid is sure to return through the master cylinder. This adjustment must be done somewhere in the mechanical linkage between the pedal and master cylinder.
