Joe & Kevin
This certainly is a sore subject! I work w/ a railroad museum and we are currently spending $10,000 to remove some insulation from a loco boiler that has been tested to have 3 to 5% A word in it. We have one volunteer who *really is* a rocket scientist, was in a *major* management postition in our country's program. He told us that when the law was passed, all A stuff was considered dangerous. It is now know that there are some 7 to 9 kinds of it, and only 1 or 2 are dangerous, and neither exists on this continent. However, many are making money on the abatment process, so it seems deregulation is not probable at this time.
I will admit our first bid on our abetment problem was around $25,000 and the only reason we were able to get the locomotive was that the "in the park" abatment bid was over $60,000--more than that county wanted to spend on an 'attractive nuciance' in their park!
I recently saw an "this old house" episode where they were removing A word shingle siding from a house. They had a hazmat crew carefully removing them, in suits, and were hosing down each shingle as they put them in special bags. What a CROK!!! OH, and the bags then went into a Haz Mat dumpster, with appropriate warning labels and 'who to contact to sue, if your were affected' labels.
Time to go to work, blood pressure already raised!
David
